Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Uttaranchal University, organized a Guest Lecture on “Promoting Rational Use of Medicines through Pharmacovigilance: A Step Towards Safer Healthcare” on 23rd September 2026 as part of the celebration of 6th National Pharmacovigilance Week 2026.
The event commenced with the motivating words of Prof. (Dr.) Vikash Jakhmola, Director, UIPS, who highlighted the importance of pharmacovigilance in ensuring the safe and rational use of medicines.
The session was followed by an expert lecture delivered by Mr. Bipin Prakash Tamta, Pharmacovigilance Associate, Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India, and Pharmacovigilance Associate, Government Doon Medical College, Dehradun. He provided students with valuable insights into the principles and practices of pharmacovigilance. The second expert speaker, Dr. Nalini Mishra, Materiovigilance Associate, Government Doon Medical College, Dehradun, delivered an informative session on materiovigilance and the monitoring of medical device-related adverse events. She also apprised the students about the training and internship opportunities available through the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) and explained the procedure for applying for such opportunities. Her interaction with the students provided useful information about career prospects and professional development in the areas of pharmacovigilance and materiovigilance.
Students of M. Pharm (Pharmacology) and Pharm. D participated enthusiastically in the programme and gained practical insights into pharmacovigilance, materiovigilance, and career opportunities in these emerging fields.
The students also expressed keen interest in visiting the Pharmacovigilance Department at Government Doon Medical College, Dehradun, to gain further practical exposure and understand the functioning of pharmacovigilance activities in a healthcare setting.
