Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Uttaranchal University, Dehradun, celebrated World Pharmacist Day 2026 on September 25, 2026, under the theme “Empowering Pharmacists for Healthier Futures”, with a special focus on the National Mission “Swasth Bharat: Combating Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)”.
The celebration was organized in accordance with the initiative of the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI). As per the PCI guidelines, pharmacy institutions were encouraged to actively participate in the statewide celebration of World Pharmacist Day 2026 through awareness and educational activities. The programme at UIPS was organized under the guidance of Hon’ble Shri Jitendra Joshi, President, Uttaranchal University, and Prof. (Dr.) Dharam Buddhi, Vice-Chancellor, Uttaranchal University, along with Prof. (Dr.) Vikash Jakhmola, Director, UIPS, with the objective of highlighting the vital role of pharmacists in healthcare and creating awareness about antimicrobial resistance. The event was coordinated by Dr. Yogita Tyagi, HoD, UIPS, and Dr. Shilpa Rana, Assistant Professor, UIPS.
The celebration began with an inaugural ceremony, followed by the assembling of students and a briefing on the activities planned for the day. Students then participated in the Pharmacist’s Oath Ceremony, reaffirming their commitment to professional ethics, patient care, and the responsibilities of the pharmacy profession.
The programme continued with an AMR Awareness Rally, in which students and faculty members participated enthusiastically with the message “Walk for Awareness • Fight AMR Together.” The rally aimed to promote awareness regarding the responsible use of antimicrobials and the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance.
A Poster Competition encouraged students to present AMR-related scientific information and creative ideas through visual communication. This was followed by a Leaflet Making Competition on the theme “Inform • Educate • Prevent,” promoting public awareness through informative materials.
A Scitoons (Science Cartoons) Competition provided students with an opportunity to communicate scientific concepts through creative visual storytelling. A Debate Competition further encouraged students to discuss challenges and possible solutions related to AMR and healthcare. The programme also featured a Pharma Quiz, testing students’ knowledge of pharmacy and healthcare in an engaging and competitive manner.
Overall, the celebration provided students with opportunities to enhance their knowledge, creativity, communication, and critical-thinking skills, while reinforcing the important role of pharmacists as healthcare professionals, educators, and partners in combating antimicrobial resistance and contributing to a healthier future.
