Law College Dehradun organised an observational visit to the Permanent Lok Adalat at the Dehradun District Court on 12 September 2026, under the aegis of Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre (ADRC). The visit was proposed and prepared by Mr. Ashok Dobhaland Prof. Radhey Shyam Jha, Head LCD & Chairperson LCDADRC under the supervision of the Principal, Professor (Dr.) Poonam Rawat. The initiative aimed to provide law students with direct, practical exposure to conciliation, negotiation, and amicable dispute resolution mechanisms in live court settings.

During the proceedings, students observed the practical handling of various financial, banking, and civil property disputes. The sessions highlighted how negotiators explore one-time settlements and mutually acceptable terms for defaulted agricultural and vehicle loans by taking into account the financial hardships of borrowers. Additionally, students observed how presiding members navigate complex civil partition and property claims by prioritizing careful listening, neutrality, and constructive conversation over rigid adversarial contestation.

The visit concluded with students gaining valuable insights into the functioning of Alternative Dispute Resolution forums. It demonstrated that effective dispute resolution relies as much on patience, communication, and empathy as it does on substantive legal knowledge, highlighting the vital role of the Permanent Lok Adalat in providing accessible, cost-effective, and expeditious justice. On the completion of visit, Pro Vice-Chancellor & Dean Law College Dehradun Professor Rajesh Bahuguna congratulated Team LCDADRC.
