Uttaranchal Institute of Management (UIM), Uttaranchal University, organised an expert talk on “Patent Writing, Copyrights and Research Publications” on 12 August 2026 as part of the induction ceremony for freshers enrolled in various programmes of UIM.
The programme commenced with an opening note by Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Suri, Director, Uttaranchal Institute of Management, Uttaranchal University, who drew students’ attention to the growing relevance of intellectual property and research in the present academic and professional landscape. He highlighted how knowledge creation, protection of original work and the ability to communicate research findings are becoming essential competencies for management students. He encouraged the freshers to remain curious, explore new ideas and understand the wider opportunities associated with research and innovation.
Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Singh, Director, Research and Innovation, Uttaranchal University, conducted the expert session and provided a practical overview of patent writing, copyright and research publications. He explained the basic processes involved in protecting intellectual creations and publishing research, while also discussing how intellectual property can be converted into opportunities for innovation, commercialisation and entrepreneurship. He further introduced students to the role of initiatives such as Startup India and Digital India in supporting emerging innovators and technology-driven ventures.
The session provided the freshers with a broader understanding of how management education can be complemented by research, intellectual property and innovation skills, helping them prepare for diverse academic and professional opportunities.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Prof. (Dr.) Tilottama Singh, HoD, UIM, who expressed her gratitude to the dignitaries, expert speaker, faculty members and students for their valuable presence and contribution to the successful organisation of the session.
