Visual Biographies of Inspiring Women: Knowledge as Power

In celebration of International Women’s Day, the Women Cell of Uttaranchal School of Computing Sciences (USCS), Uttaranchal University, Dehradun, organized an academic activity titled “Visual Biographies of Inspiring Women: Knowledge as Power” on 6th March 2026. The event was inspired by the concept of “Nari to Narayani,” reflecting the inherent strength, resilience, and potential of women to rise as powerful contributors to society. Through this activity, students explored and presented the inspiring journeys and achievements of influential women, fostering awareness and appreciation for women’s empowerment. 


The programme was graced by the esteemed presence of Prof. (Dr.) Sonal Sharma, Director-USCS, and Prof. (Dr.) Sameer Dev Sharma, HoD-USCS, and began with a ceremonial lamp lighting, symbolizing the dispelling of ignorance and the spread of knowledge. 


Prof. (Dr.) Sonal Sharma encouraged students to learn from the remarkable achievements of women leaders and emphasized the importance of knowledge, confidence, and leadership in empowering women in modern society. 


The presentations were assessed by the esteemed judges, Prof. (Dr.) Monisha Awasthi and Prof. (Dr.) Meera Sharma. The evaluation was carried out based on parameters such as the quality of content, level of creativity, effectiveness of presentation skills, and alignment with the given theme. 


Displaying great enthusiasm and creativity, students actively participated by presenting visual biographies of inspiring women personalities, highlighting their life journeys, achievements, and contributions to society. Their efforts were recognized through the announcement of results, where Sumit Sirwal (BCA 2B) secured the 1st position, followed by Mehak Gupta (BCA 6E) in 2nd position. The 3rd position was jointly awarded to Aman Uniyal (MCA 2C) and Gilbath Batholomeo (BCA 2C). 


The event was successfully coordinated by Ms. Nisha Rana, Ms. Manisha Saini, Ms. Manisha Khanduja, and Ms. Pallavi Raj, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members. The programme effectively encouraged students to learn from the inspiring stories of women leaders and understand the significance of the journey from “Nari to Narayani,” symbolizing strength, knowledge, and empowerment.
