1. Introduction
As a part of the Induction Program – Deeksharambh 2026, Uttaranchal Institute of Technology (UIT), Uttaranchal University organized an industrial visit to the ONGC Subir Raha Oil Museum, Dehradun, on 07 August 2026 for fresher students. The students were accompanied by Mr. Abhishek Chand Thakuri and Mr. Kshitij Pandey, Faculty, UIT. The visit was coordinated by Prof. (Dr.) S.K. Shah, Head, B.Tech First Year, under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Sumit Chaudhary, Director, UIT. The students departed from the university campus at 10:30 AM.
2. Objectives
The visit aimed to provide practical exposure to the petroleum and natural gas industry and help students understand hydrocarbon exploration, drilling, production, transportation, refining, industrial safety, and environmental protection. It also aimed to connect theoretical engineering concepts with real-world industrial applications.
3. Visit Experience
The visit began with an audio-visual presentation in the museum’s mini theatre. Students learned about the formation of petroleum and natural gas, exploration techniques, drilling operations, production, transportation, refining, and the history and achievements of ONGC.
The students then explored the museum galleries, which displayed geological specimens, rock samples, drilling equipment, models of offshore platforms, wellhead assemblies, pipelines, storage systems, and refining processes. The exhibits provided valuable insights into modern technologies used in the oil and gas sector.
4. Learning Outcomes
Students gained practical knowledge of drilling and production systems, fluid mechanics, pressure control, pipeline transportation, instrumentation, automation, equipment maintenance, and industrial safety. They also understood the importance of environmental conservation and ONGC’s contribution to India’s energy security.
5. Conclusion
The industrial visit was highly informative and educational. It successfully bridged the gap between classroom learning and practical industrial applications. The visit enhanced students’ understanding of petroleum engineering, modern industrial technologies, safety practices, and the significant role of ONGC in India’s energy sector.
