The Eco-Club of the School of Applied and Life Sciences (SALS), Uttaranchal University, Dehradun, under the aegis of Unnat Bharat, in collaboration with NSS and NEP Sarthi, successfully organized a plantation drive on 31st July 2026 on the theme “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam.” The programme aimed to encourage students and faculty members to plant a tree in the name of their mothers as a symbol of gratitude while promoting environmental conservation, increasing green cover, and fostering a sense of ecological responsibility.
The event was organized under the banner of the Eco-Club and NSS and was coordinated by Dr. V. K. Srivastava, Dr. Manoj Sharma, Dr. Pashupati Nath, and Dr. Induja Mishra. The programme was graced by Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Singh, Director, School of Applied and Life Sciences, who highlighted the vital role of trees in maintaining ecological balance and emphasized the importance of collective efforts toward building a sustainable and greener future.
Students and faculty members from various disciplines, including Chemistry, Life Sciences, Environmental Science, Biotechnology, and other departments, enthusiastically participated in the plantation drive. Faculty members Dr. Shivam Pandey, Dr. Nishesh Sharma, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Dr. Yogesh Awasthi, Dr. Rohit Singh Sajwan, and Dr. Shivani Ruthan, along with student coordinator Mrityunjay, actively contributed to the successful conduct of the programme.
Participants planted saplings and took a pledge to nurture them as a lasting tribute to their mothers while contributing to environmental protection and climate action. The initiative inspired participants to recognize the importance of tree plantation as a meaningful step toward sustainable development. The programme concluded with a collective commitment to preserve nature, adopt eco-friendly practices, and continue contributing to environmental conservation for the well-being of present and future generations.
