The Department of Civil Engineering organized an educational visit to the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology (WIHG), Dehradun, on 11th September 2026 for first- and second-year B.Tech Civil Engineering students. The group was accompanied by Dr. Samrity Jalota and Mr. Girish Kumar, Assistant Professors in the Department of Civil Engineering.
The visit commenced with an interactive orientation led by institute experts Mr. Vaibhav Dube, Mr. Dhanabir, Mr. Avishek, and Ms. Ishika, who outlined the history, mission, and current research initiatives of WIHG. The discussion highlighted Himalayan geology, focusing on tectonics, seismology, paleoclimate, and environmental systems. Students subsequently explored the Geological Museum, examining comprehensive displays of minerals, fossils, rock specimens, structural maps, and evolutionary models of the Himalayas. The session placed particular emphasis on geohazards- notably earthquakes and landslides- and the role of scientific research in hazard mitigation and sustainable development. Technical demonstrations illustrated real-world applications in civil engineering and earth sciences, making the visit an enriching bridge between theoretical knowledge, infrastructure planning, and environmental stewardship.
