‘Women as an Equal Gender: Miraculous Myth or Legal Manifestation?’

International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on March 8 to recognise the achievements, strength, and contributions of women in society. The Women's Cell from the School of Applied and Life Sciences (SALS) celebrated it on 10 March 2026, from 3.00 pm to 4.30 pm, with great enthusiasm and respect. It organized a guest lecture to create awareness of Sustainable Development Goal 5, i.e., gender equality, which focuses on the elimination of discrimination, violence, and harmful practices against women and girls and ensures equal opportunities in education, employment, leadership, and decision-making. 


The program was organised in the Seminar Hall, 3rd Floor, SALS and was attended by faculty members, students, and guests. 


The event began with a warm welcome by the woman cell coordinator, Dr. Jyoti Ramojwar, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. The Director, School of Applied and Life Sciences, Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Singh addressed the gathering, highlighting the main objectives of the guest lecture, and motivated the female students to reach the topmost heights in their careers by giving real examples of female role models in our society. The program included a guest lecture and a video display to honour the spirit of womanhood. The guest speaker, Prof. (Dr.) Lakshmi Priya Vinjamuri, Professor, Law College, Uttaranchal University, Dehradun, shared inspiring thoughts about women's empowerment, gender equality, and the important role women play in shaping society. Students also participated enthusiastically in the celebration. 


The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Shikha Thakur, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology, expressing gratitude to the guest speaker, faculty members, organisers, and students for making the event successful. The program served as a reminder of the importance of equality, respect, and opportunities for women in all aspects of life. Overall, the celebration was meaningful and inspiring, leaving everyone motivated to contribute towards a more inclusive and supportive society for women.
