Law College Dehradun, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, organized an Alumni Talk on 9 March 2026,on the title “From Rights to Reality: Bridging the Legal Gap in Women’s Right to Justice,” under the aegis of Women Cell. The session aimed to create awareness about the challenges faced by women, particularly acid attack survivors, in accessing justice despite the existence of legal protections.
The session began with the Dean’s address, who welcomed the Chief Guest Ms. Snigdha Tiwari. He appreciated Ms. Tiwari for being one of the finest debaters during her college days and for bringing numerous trophies to the institution. He expressed pride in the achievements and mentioned that since the world was celebrating International Women’s Day, the college decided to celebrate by inviting one of its accomplished alumni who is now a practicing advocate at the High Court.
The distinguished alumna Ms. Snigdha Tiwari, Advocate at High Court of Uttarakhand, Nainital, shared her valuable insights on the legal framework related to women’s rights, the difficulties survivors encounter in seeking justice, and the need for stronger implementation of laws and support mechanisms. Through real-life perspectives and legal understanding, the talk highlighted the importance of empathy, legal awareness, and institutional support in ensuring dignity and justice for survivors. The session proved to be highly engaging and informative for students and faculty members. It encouraged meaningful discussions on gender justice, legal empowerment, and the role of young legal professionals in bridging the gap between rights guaranteed by law and their actual realization in society.
The program concluded with an interactive discussion where participants reflected on the importance of collective efforts in promoting a more just and inclusive society.
