Dehradun, December 12. Uttaranchal University hosted its Sixth Convocation in a grand manner today. The Governor of the state, Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh (Retd.), was present as the chief guest. Fifty-two students were awarded gold medals, 35 Ph.Ds., 85 PG degrees, and 2,239 UG degrees. Upon arrival at the university, the Governor laid a wreath on the portraits of Param Vir Chakra awardees on the Shaurya Diwar. The university's NCC cadets welcomed His Excellency with a guard of honor. University President Mr. Jitendra Joshi honored His Excellency with a bouquet of flowers and presented him with a memento. The convocation procession was led by the University Registrar, with university officials and faculty dressed in traditional attire, with His Excellency the Governor walking at the back of the procession, as per tradition. The procession's entry into the Swami Vivekananda Auditorium, accompanied by loud Vedic chants, was a remarkable sight in itself.
They were awarded gold medals by His Excellency the Governor. Girls dominated, winning 40 out of 52 gold medals.

On this occasion, University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dharam Buddhi presented a report on the university's progress and achievements. He stated that Uttaranchal University currently provides regular and online education to over 29,000 students from all states of the country, including 24 countries. The university's curriculum, as per the 2020 UCLA, meets international standards and national and local requirements. This includes the Honorable Governor's 5-point mission: reverse migration, organic farming, women's empowerment, artificial intelligence, game changers, turning points, and centre of gravity, all of which Uttaranchal University has sincerely adopted as its mission. Merit- and need-based financial scholarships awarded by the university this year amounted to ₹79.12 crore. This year, the university published 2,000 research papers, bringing the total number of publications to over 7,000. Uttaranchal University ranked second in Uttarakhand and 49th in India in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings. The university was honored to achieve 75th place in the 6th Pharmacy Rankings 2025. The university ranked 330th in the QS World University Rankings Asia 2026. Students who graduate from here are employed in renowned companies worldwide, including Google, Microsoft and IBM. Uttaranchal University is credited with producing 73 judicial officers, including officers in the Indian Armed Forces.
In his address, His Excellency the Governor stated that India's youth now dream not of millions or crores, but of billions and trillions, and are striving to realize them. India has entered an era of modernity, innovation, and change. No one can stop it from becoming a world leader. Offering success tips to the youth, he stated that dreams, determination, resolve, struggle, and patience lead to success. He added that the world's biggest challenge is artificial intelligence, followed by cosmic knowledge, which is undoubtedly India's domain. Finally, His Excellency delivered the message of "nation first" with dedication to the students.
In the evening, an alumni meet was held at the university, where former students shared their experiences and achievements.
