Law College Dehradun, Faculty of Uttaranchal University, under the aegis of the Moot Court Society, organized a one-day workshop titled “Forensics in India: Psychological Autopsies and Victimology as Evidentiary Tools in Criminal Justice” on 17 November 2025. Conceived with the objective of strengthening students’ academic engagement with the interdisciplinary linkages between forensic science and criminal law, the workshop provided a structured platform to explore behavioral, psychological, and victim-centric approaches within investigative and evidentiary frameworks.
The workshop was graced by the benign presence of Dr. Rukmini Krishnamurthy, Chief Guest; Dr. D. Krishnamurthy; Prof. Dr. Dharam Buddhi, Vice Chancellor; Prof. Dr. Rajesh Bahuguna, Pro Vice Chancellor and Dean, Law College Dehradun; Prof. Dr. Ajay Singh, Dean, School of Applied and Life Sciences; Prof. Dr. Radhey Sham Jha, Head of Department, Law College Dehradun; along with Dr. Aishwarya Singh, Faculty In-charge, Moot Court Society. Their presence added immense academic value and solemnity to the initiative.
The workshop began with the felicitation ceremony of the guests. The resource person, Dr. Rukmini Krishnamurthy, the first woman forensic scientist of India, delivered an insightful and comprehensive session drawing from her decades of field experience. She shared her personal journey into forensic science, noting that she chose the discipline at a time when it was largely unexplored. She reflected on the early challenges she faced as a pioneering woman in the field and emphasized the growing relevance of scientific tools such as DNA profiling, digital forensics, and crime-scene reconstruction. The session provided students with valuable insights into the practical application of forensic methodologies and their evidentiary significance in courts. The workshop concluded successfully with a vote of thanks by Dr. Aishwarya Singh.
