The Department of Forensic
Science, School of Applied & Life Sciences, Uttaranchal University, organized a series of interactive orientation activities for newly
admitted B.Sc. and M.Sc. Forensic Science (First
Year) students on 10 August 2026. The activities
were coordinated by Ms. Vani Narula and Mr.
Rishav Singh, under the presence of Mr. Pritesh Vyas, Program Coordinator.
The programme featured five engaging activities designed to
provide students with practical exposure to key areas of forensic science. An Autopsy Video Demonstration
introduced students to forensic pathology and post-mortem examination, helping
them connect theoretical concepts with real-world investigative practices.
A Forensic Case Study and
Case-Solving Activity encouraged students to
analyze an investigative case, examine evidence, and reason through the
sequence of events. The activity strengthened their observational, analytical,
and problem-solving abilities.
The Neanderthal Documentary
Screening provided students with insights into
human evolution, skeletal evidence, and biological variation, broadening their
understanding of biological anthropology. This was followed by a Fingerprint Pattern Study Activity, where students examined their fingerprints and identified basic
patterns such as arches, loops, and
whorls, gaining hands-on experience in pattern
recognition.
The Signature Comparison
Activity introduced students to questioned
document examination. Students compared handwritten signatures by observing
features such as slant, size, spacing, and letter formation, developing an
understanding of basic forensic document analysis.
Overall, the activities promoted active learning, critical thinking, observation, and analytical
skills, while providing students with an
engaging introduction to the practical dimensions of forensic science. The
programme offered a meaningful beginning to their academic journey by
connecting classroom learning with real-world forensic applications.
