The Department of Civil Engineering at Uttaranchal Institute of Technology, under the banner of the Nirmaan Club, organized an outreach workshop titled “Fundamentals of MS Office” on 18th November 2025 for the students at Junior High School, Kotra Santaur - a village adopted by Uttaranchal University under the उन्नत भारत अभियान (UBA). A group of 33 students from the school visited the Uttaranchal University campus to participate in this one-day training programme aimed at improving their basic digital literacy. The initiative was designed to introduce school students to essential computer skills that would strengthen their academic foundation and enhance their confidence in using technology.
The workshop was coordinated and conducted by Mr. Ashish Pathani and Dr. Samrity Jalota, Assistant Professors, Department of Civil Engineering who delivered an engaging presentation followed by hands-on training sessions. Students received practical exposure to MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint, with each participant working individually on a computer system. The session on MS Word covered text formatting, creation of tables, and inserting images, enabling students to prepare simple documents. In MS Excel, they learned how to create spreadsheets, apply basic formulas, and generate charts. The PowerPoint component introduced them to slide design, animations, and the basics of delivering effective presentations. The interactive nature of the workshop helped the students grasp the concepts easily and complete practice activities with enthusiasm.
The outreach programme successfully achieved its objective of familiarizing young learners with fundamental computer tools, thereby empowering them with skills relevant to their studies.
