School of Agriculture, Uttaranchal University organised a workshop on 12th February 2026 on the theme Innovations in Agriculture. The workshop aimed to introduce students to the use of Drone Technology in Agriculture and the Importance of Carbon Credits in today’s Scenario. The workshop began with a welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) Sharad Pandey, Director, School of Agriculture. He warmly welcomed the Chief Guest Mr. Prateek Kumar, Director, Dronier Avigation In his address, he highlighted the growing importance of innovations and advanced technologies in agriculture. He emphasised the implementation of modern techniques and robotics in farming to enhance efficiency and precision.
After the welcome address, Mr. Prateek Kumar delivered a lecture on the use of drones in agriculture. He emphasized on the use of Drones in Crop Surveillance, Crop Monitoring and Precision Farming. He mentioned that the Government of India approved the use of drones in agriculture in the year 2022, which led to their wider adoption in farming practices. He further also discussed the role of agroforestry in maintaining ecological balance through carbon sequestration and highlighted the use of electric vehicles, solar energy, and wind energy to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
The Guest Lecture was followed by Live Demonstration of Drone at Crop Research Centre of School of Agriculture at Kotra Santaur. Students were introduced to radar detection systems, remote control mechanisms, GPS technology, vegetation detection levels, and safety standards and rules for drone flying. The students witnessed spraying with the help of drones in much less time as compared to manual spraying. The workshop was attended by faculty members and students of the School of Agriculture and concluded successfully with active participation.
