The School of Applied and Life Sciences (SALS), Uttaranchal University, organised a World Cancer Day Awareness Programme on 04 February 2025 to sensitise students about cancer prevention, early detection, and recent advances in cancer research and therapy. The programme was conducted with the aim of promoting awareness, scientific understanding, and social responsibility among undergraduate and postgraduate students. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Ajay Singh (Director, SALS) at 10:00 AM.
The event featured a skit presented by students conveying an awareness message, oral presentations by students and an invited expert lecture by Dr. Kaushik Neogi, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacology, School of Pharmacy and Technology Management, SVKM’s NMIMS (Deemed to be University), Maharashtra, India. Dr. Neogi delivered an insightful talk highlighting the biological basis of cancer, major risk factors, commonly prevalent cancers in India, and the importance of early diagnosis. He also discussed emerging therapeutic strategies such as targeted therapy, nanotechnology-based drug delivery systems, and personalized medicine in cancer treatment.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Manjusha Pal, Dr. Maneesha Pandey and Dr. Nishesh Sharma (HOD), Department of Biotechnology, SALS. Faculty members actively participated and encouraged student interaction throughout the session. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, fostering awareness and scientific thinking. Overall, the event successfully contributed to enhancing knowledge about cancer awareness and reinforced the role of biotechnology and life sciences in addressing global health challenges.
