Law College Dehradun celebrated Himalayan Day on 9th September 2025 with an insightful seminar themed “Balancing Development and Ecological Fragility: Addressing Disaster Challenges in the Himalayan Region”, organized under the aegis of Vasundhara – The Green Society. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and guests in both online and offline modes, reflecting a broad commitment to the cause of Himalayan sustainability. The seminar opened with a warm welcome and felicitation of the distinguished guest of honour, Former Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Head of Forest Force (PCCF & HOFF), Uttarakhand, followed by the ceremonial lamp lighting and rendition of the University Kulgeet. The inaugural address highlighted the significance of Himalayan Day and stressed the urgent need to pursue development in harmony with ecological preservation. 

Delivering the keynote address, the speaker provided a comprehensive overview of the disaster challenges confronting the Himalayan region. He emphasized the necessity of an integrated development approach rooted in ecological sensitivity and disaster risk mitigation. Drawing on his extensive experience, he highlighted the consequences of unplanned tourism and unchecked urbanization, underscoring the importance of valuing both scientific warnings and traditional wisdom. Advocating for policy reforms and local-level solutions, he inspired participants to adopt a spirit of responsibility and service towards safeguarding the fragile Himalayan ecosystem. 

The interactive Q&A session addressed pressing concerns on eco-friendly development, sustainable construction, policy frameworks, and the human impact on the environment, offering students and stakeholders practical insights as well as motivation for future action. The seminar concluded with a formal vote of thanks, leaving participants with a reinforced collective resolve to champion sustainable development and strengthen disaster resilience in the Himalayan region.
