Uttaranchal School of Computing Sciences (USCS), Uttaranchal University, organised a one-day Educational Visit to the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, Dehradun, on 26 August 2025 for first-year students. The Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology (WIHG), Dehradun, is an autonomous research institute under the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. The objective of the visit was to make students aware of research contributions in various fields such as geology, geophysics, sedimentology, palaeontology, metamorphism, environment, climate change, natural hazards, geotechnical studies, remote sensing, and natural resources related to the Himalaya and other regions.
Special appreciation was extended to Prof (Dr) Sonal Sharma, Director, USCS, for her invaluable support and guidance throughout the visit.
Dr R.K. Sehgal, Scientist at the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, along with his team, addressed the students, during which different geodynamic evolutions of the Himalaya were discussed. A question-and-answer session was held, enabling students to discuss several research-related ideas.
Some significant research challenges were also highlighted to the students and faculty members. Prof (Dr) Meera Sharma, Professor, USCS, and Mr Aagman Kaparwan, Assistant Professor, accompanied 83 students from various courses of the Uttaranchal School of Computing Sciences during the visit.
Under the guidance of Dr Sameer Dev Sharma, HoD, USCS, the visit was successfully organised by Prof (Dr) Meera Sharma, with essential support and contributions from Ms Manisha Saini and Ms Manisha Khanduja. The outcome of the event was that students had the opportunity to learn about the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, Dehradun, and the diverse opportunities it offers for computing sciences students.
