A seminar and demonstration session on fire and its extinguishing techniques was conducted on 22 July 2025, in the Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS) Department, Uttaranchal University, Dehradun. The event was conducted with the permission of Dr Vikash Jakhmola, Director, UIPS, Uttaranchal University. The session was organised by the Fire Safety Organiser Committee, Uttaranchal University. The seminar aimed to educate participants about fire safety, classifying different types of fire and demonstrating the appropriate use of fire extinguishers. The event was designed to raise awareness and preparedness in handling fire-related emergencies within the campus premises. The resource persons were Mr Kuldeep Singh, Mr Himanshu Yadav and Mr Abhishek Sharma (Fire Safety Supervisors).
A detailed description of the introduction to fire, fire triangle, types of fires, and types of fire extinguishers was covered in the seminar session, while the demonstration session included identifying the correct extinguisher type, using the PASS technique (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep), and how to evacuate and respond to fire incidents.
The seminar and demonstration were highly informative and interactive. They successfully enhanced the knowledge and confidence of participants in managing fire emergencies. The resource persons addressed queries and emphasised the importance of periodic training and mock drills.
Dr Vikash Jakhmola, Director UIPS, recommended that similar fire safety awareness programmes be conducted every six months for all university departments.
