On World Environment Day 2025, School of Agriculture (SOA), Uttaranchal University, organized an environmental awareness program and plantation drive under the joint aegis of the Agri Eco Club and NCC. The program began with a welcome address by Prof (Dr) Sharad Pandey, Director, School of Agriculture, in which he encouraged students to focus on reuse (recycling) of materials, large-scale tree plantation, and exploring start-up opportunities in the circular economy. On this occasion, Head of Department Prof (Dr) Rajendra Prasad delivered a lecture on the topic of green hydrogen. He explained that green hydrogen is a clean and sustainable source of energy, obtained by converting water into hydrogen through the process of electrolysis. It serves as a better alternative to conventional fuels like coal or diesel, significantly reducing carbon emissions. In his lecture, he also addressed the issue of plastic pollution, stating that single-use plastics are contaminating our water, soil, and air. He emphasized the need to minimize plastic usage, adopt reusable materials, and take steps toward cleanliness. Following this, a plantation drive was conducted within the university campus, where students and faculty members jointly planted saplings and pledged to protect the environment. On this occasion, Dr Atin Kumar, Ms Mansi Nautiyal, Mr Virendra Kaul, Mr Sarveshwar Prasad, NCC student cadets, all faculty members of the School of Agriculture, and many agriculture students were present. The program was informative and inspiring.
