The School of Applied & Life Sciences (SALS), Uttaranchal University, celebrated World Environment Day on 5 June 2025 by organizing a Plantation Drive and a Seminar on the theme “Green Today, Better Tomorrow”. The event commenced with an inaugural ceremony graced by Dr Manmohan Rawat, Senior Scientist & Research Head, Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology, Dehradun, who also served as the keynote speaker. Other distinguished guests included Prof (Dr) Ajay Singh, Director SALS, Dr V K Srivastava, and Dr Nishesh Sharma. In his opening remarks, Prof Singh emphasized the importance of environmental awareness and encouraged students to actively participate in environmental campaigns and plantation initiatives within their communities. Delivering the keynote address, Dr Manmohan Rawat shared deep insights into environmental protection and sustainable development. He stressed the need for responsible resource utilization, highlighted the role of individual and collective efforts in combating environmental degradation, and advocated for the adoption of eco-friendly practices to maintain long-term ecological balance. Dr Nishesh Sharma presented a detailed discussion on the concept of biodegradability, highlighting its pivotal role in minimizing environmental pollution and promoting sustainable waste management solutions. The event concluded with a collective commitment to foster environmental responsibility and take meaningful steps toward a greener, healthier planet.
