Herbal Garden Visit to Botanical Survey of India (BSI)

Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Uttaranchal University, organized a one-day Herbal Garden visit to the Botanical Survey of India (BSI), Dehradun, for B.Pharm 3rd-year students on 13th August 2026. The visit aimed to provide practical exposure to medicinal plants and their significance in pharmaceutical sciences.

Students explored the Herbal Garden, Herbarium, and Museum, observing diverse medicinal and aromatic plants, including rare and endangered species. They learned about botanical characteristics, nomenclature, therapeutic uses, conservation practices, and the importance of medicinal plant research.

The students were welcomed by the scientific staff of BSI. Dr. Sushil Kumar Singh, Scientist F and Head, Northern Regional Centre, Dehradun, conducted an introductory session highlighting BSI’s role in plant exploration, documentation, conservation, and botanical research.

The Herbal Garden, Museum, and Herbarium were guided by Aashutosh Maheshwari, Field Assistant, and Vaishali Gautam, Botanical Assistant, NRC Dehradun. Demonstrations on herbarium preparation, specimen preservation, and crude drug authentication provided valuable practical insights and helped bridge theoretical knowledge with real-world applications.

The visit was conducted under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Vikash Jakhmola, Director, UIPS, and coordinated by Mrs. Sadhna Singh and Mr. Gaurav Das, Assistant Professors, UIPS. Overall, the visit was highly informative and enriched students’ academic knowledge through practical experience.
