Female students from the School of Applied and Life Sciences, Uttaranchal University visited the Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST) on 10 August 2024 for gender sensitization through the She for STEM program, Uttarakhand. The Governor, Lt. Gen. Gurmit Singh (Retd.), inaugurated this program, highlighting the crucial role of women in STEM for India’s progress. With this vision, Prof Durgesh Pant, Director General of UCOST, pledged to mentor every girl in the state over the next 3-5 years for a bright future.

The female students gained knowledge about the success stories of women scientists in STEM. They learned valuable insights from female scientists, which provided exposure to students regarding their careers as well as overcoming life challenges. The students also participated in various activities organized by UCOST as part of the She for STEM program. The visit proved to be extremely beneficial for enhancing their knowledge and understanding of the She for STEM initiative.

Additionally, the students visited the Regional Science Center at UCOST, where they learned about biodiversity, traditional knowledge, and the cultural heritage of Uttarakhand. The students were accompanied by Dr Himani Badoni and Dr Monika Singh.
