Celebration of Gandhi Jayanti

On 1st October, 2024, NSS Unit of Uttaranchal university and School of Agriculture, Uttaranchal University successfully organized a heartfelt celebration at Rajkiya Inter-college, Hariyawala, Dehradun  to commemorate the birth anniversaries of two great leaders, Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, and Lal Bahadur Shastri, the second Prime Minister of India. The event aimed to instil the values of patriotism, simplicity, and service among students and staff. The programme was commenced at 11 a.m. in the school ground.  

To start with the event, in the true spirit of Gandhi’s vision of cleanliness, the School of Agriculture, Uttaranchal University, organized a Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, where students cleaned the school premises and nearby areas of Hariyawala Village, spreading awareness about hygiene and environmental conservation. Following the cleanliness drive, a tree plantation campaign was conducted. Students and staff planted a variety of saplings on the school grounds, promoting the message of sustainable living and environmental protection. The event began with the lighting of the lamp and garlanding the portraits of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. The principal addressed the gathering, emphasizing the enduring relevance of their teachings. 

The students of NSS unit of Uttaranchal University, showcased their eloquence and creativity through impactful speeches and captivating poetry recitations. They passionately highlighted Gandhi’s philosophy of non-violence and Shastri’s iconic slogan, “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan,” inspiring the audience to embrace these timeless values. The poetry segment featured both self-composed and renowned works centred on themes of peace, patriotism, and unity. 

The celebration concluded with a pledge by all present to uphold the values of truth, simplicity, and environmental stewardship. The program not only honoured the legacies of Gandhi and Shastri but also inspired students to embody their ideals in daily life. The inclusion of speeches, poetry, the cleanliness drive and the plantation drive made the event a resounding success, leaving an indelible mark on the participants and the audience.
