It was a Business Simulation Week, at the Uttaranchal Institute of Management which gave final-year MBA students a chance to run a company instead of just reading about one. Over five days, from 12 to 16 October,2026 students worked in teams on the CESIM simulation platform, taking decisions on demand, R&D, production, marketing, ESG, logistics and finance, and seeing the results of those choices in the next round.
The week combined play with strategy discussion. Sessions covered business models, vision and mission, PESTLE, the Three Horizon framework and competitive strategy, with examples such as IndiGo, Tata Nano, Apple and Jio. A group activity asked students to decide strategy for three very different markets, which showed how a company can share one corporate goal and still need a different approach in each location. After every stage, teams reviewed their results with SWOT, BCG, GE McKinsey Matrix along with Financial Statement Analysis, Value Creation, Market Share, Shareholder Wealth and wrote reflective reports.
The final day linked the simulation back to the classroom through Porter’s Five Forces and Generic Strategies, followed by a review of strategy and shareholder value creation, a quiz and student feedback. The trainings conducted were a meaningful way to help students see how every function of a business connects, and to prepare future managers who can back their decisions with data.
