Uttaranchal College of Health Sciences observed World Anaesthesia Day on, October 16, 2026, under the theme “Before, During and Beyond Surgery: Advancing Anaesthesia Safety, Technology and Patient Care.” The programme commenced with ceremonial lamp lighting and felicitation of the guest speaker, Dr. S. C. Baghel, OT Supervisor at Swami Rama Himalayan University, Dehradun by Director, UCHS. This was followed by a welcome address delivered by HOD, UCHS.
An experienced healthcare professional, Dr. Baghel brought expertise in operation theatre practices and patient safety. His practical insights enriched the session and helped students connect classroom learning with clinical responsibilities. He highlighted the Surgical Safety Checklist’s role in preventing errors and ensuring patient safety. He explained intubation techniques, demonstrated the management of failed intubation, and outlined the contents and maintenance of an emergency tray. A Q&A session followed the lecture, allowing students and faculty members to clarify doubts and discuss practical challenges.
The programme emphasised preparedness, effective teamwork and quick decision making in the operation theatre. It strengthened participants’ understanding of safe anaesthesia practices and reinforced the collective commitment to patient care through “Together for Safer Anaesthesia.”
