INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO HIMALAYAN WELLNESS COMPANY, DEHRADUN

The primary objective of the industrial visit was to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the operations at Himalayan Wellness Company, particularly in the areas of medicinal manufacturing, microbiological testing, and herbal cultivation.

The visit began with students watching a BBC documentary that provided a brief history of the Himalayan Wellness Company. The documentary highlighted the company's founder, Mr Mohammad Manal, who traced the company's origins to Ayurveda. In 1934, he pioneered the creation of "Serpina," a groundbreaking treatment for hypertension, setting the foundation for the company's future. His son, Mr Meraj Manal, later carried forward this legacy. The film, along with subsequent discussions, showcased several of the company’s key pharmaceutical products. Following the introduction, Dr Zafar and Mr Dixit gave a comprehensive tour of the company's laboratories, providing insights into advanced microbiological testing techniques to the students. The visit highlighted innovative methods such as tissue culturing and Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICPMS) for heavy metal detection.

The visit also included a tour of the Pharmaceutical Museum, which showcased a diverse collection of historical artifacts from the company's early years, including antique machinery, original drug packaging, and the evolution of the company's logo. The Ayurveda Museum displayed ancient texts, traditional methods for preparing medicines, and how these practices have been integrated into the company’s modern operations, along with the history of Ayurveda. During the visit, Dr S Farooq engaged the students in a highly inspiring and motivational session. The industrial visit to the Himalayan Wellness Company provided an enriching experience, blending insights into Ayurvedic medicine, modern manufacturing techniques, corporate culture, and the preservation of historical heritage.
