The Women Cell of Law College Dehradun, Uttaranchal University organized a Health Awareness Program on 27 August 2024 by Dr Divya Mishra, a renowned Senior Gynecologist from Graphic Era Hospital, Dehradun. Dr Mishra began the session by shedding light on the often-misunderstood condition of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), explaining how hormonal fluctuations and serotonin imbalances—a neurotransmitter key to regulating mood, appetite, and sleep—play a pivotal role. She highlighted the psychological toll, with stress and anxiety exacerbating these hormonal shifts.

She also explained how PMS is like a roller coaster ride of hormones where serotonin which helps control mood, appetite and sleep also dips. As for the hormonal changes in women during and after weight loss, she pointed out that stress and anxiety contribute to these changes. Dr Mishra explained the symptoms as amenorrhea and oligomenorrhea. The session was quite informative about the abnormalities associated with hormonal imbalance and then provided direction and focused on the factors of the menstrual cycle. She emphasized the necessity of a balanced diet for at least six days a week and the benefits of incorporating physical activities, such as brisk walking, to support both mental and physical health.

The session concluded with a resonant message as, when you start to balance the hormones, you start to balance the life.
