As part of the Orientation and Induction Program (Deeksharambh-2024), the Uttaranchal School of Hotel & Hospitality Management (USHHM) at Uttaranchal University hosted an informative online session on August 20, 2024. The guest speaker was Mr Ravi Bisht, Head of Resident and Cuisine Operations at Antara Senior Living, Dehradun.
Mr Bisht provided valuable insights into the hospitality industry, covering essential topics for aspiring hoteliers. His presentation began with an overview of “Operational Departments within a Hotel,” including front office, housekeeping, food and beverage, and maintenance. Understanding these departments is crucial for grasping how different functions work together to enhance guest experiences.
He then discussed “Basic Job Roles within These Departments,” outlining fundamental responsibilities from front desk associates to chefs and restaurant managers. This helped students identify potential career paths and understand each role's scope.
Finally, Mr. Bisht addressed the “Required Skills and Knowledge for These Roles,” emphasizing key competencies such as communication, problem-solving, and technical expertise. He provided practical advice on developing these skills to prepare for a successful career in hospitality.
The session was highly beneficial, offering students a deeper understanding of their future career landscape. It aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, promoting inclusive and sustainable employment. The event was organized by SDG Club Coordinator Mr Kamal Singh Bisht and Vijay Kumar Pant, Assistant Professor.
