A seminar on Career Guidance & Upskilling for Holistic Development

 

Uttaranchal Institute of Management, Uttaranchal University organized a seminar with UIM alumni, Mr Manav Sharma (MBA- Batch 2021-2023) on “Career Guidance & Upskilling for Holistic Development”. Mr Manav Sharma is currently working as a Business Development Representative (VET sales) in Cvent. The Seminar took place on 06 October 2023 at the UIM Seminar Hall. Prof (Dr) Pradeep Suri, Dean, UIM welcomed the Guest Speaker.  

Mr Sharma, the speaker began the session by highlighting the significance of securing a job through campus placements. He recounted his own experience and emphasized that campus placements provide an excellent launchpad for a career, and how this allows students to bypass the uncertainty of job hunting and provide a sense of stability right after graduation. He stressed upon the pivotal role of colleges in grooming students and discussed how professional programs like MBA not only impart knowledge but also instil essential skills like communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. He highlighted the need for self-grooming, continuous self-assessment, and quick decision-making. He emphasized that the corporate world expects individuals to be proactive and adaptable. He shared about his personal anecdotes and explained that finding the right equilibrium between professional and personal life is crucial for long-term success and well-being. He also dedicated a significant portion of his talk to the importance of proper career planning. He encouraged students to set clear goals, create a roadmap for their careers, and stay committed to continuous learning and growth. At last, he explained how LinkedIn can serve as a powerful networking tool and how online courses can help individuals acquire new skills and stay competitive in their fields. The session was interactive and students proactively asked questions. At the end seminar, Dr Pooja Soni, Head of Alumni Club, UIM, proposed a vote of thanks.
