The School of
Applied and Life Sciences successfully conducts a guest lecture on ‘An
Initiative to Create Awareness of Transgender Rights’ on 14 March 2023. The
event was organised by NISD in collaboration with Law College Dehradun.
The guest speaker
for the day was Prof (Dr) Poonam Rawat. HOD, LCD who explained the history of
transgender people and how legal rights were framed. She also discussed the
problems associated with the laws. She stressed the need to provide equal
opportunities to transgender people. Everyone should treat them with compassion
so that they can live a dignified life.
Students and
faculty members joined the event virtually and a few joined in person.
The event was
coordinated by SALS by Prof (Dr) Bharti Ramola. She thanked the guest speaker
Prof (Dr) Poonam Rawat for enlightening the students of Applied Sciences about
the laws associated with the transgender community. She also thanked Prof (Dr)
Rajesh Bahuguna, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Uttaranchal University had organised the
lecture series in all the constituent colleges of Uttaranchal University. She
also thanked Dr Laxmipriya Vinjamuri who was coordinating the series of
lectures and Prof (Dr) Ajay Singh Dean School of Applied and Life Sciences, all
faculty and students who joined the event.
