Uttaranchal School of Journalism and Mass Communication Organized Lecture Series on “Transgender Rights”

On 11th March, 2023, National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, government of India organizes a series of guest lecture on the Topic ‘Transgender Rights’ in collaboration with the Law College Dehradun (LCD), faculty of Uttaranchal University, under the aegis of Uttaranchal School of Journalism and Mass Communication (USJMC). The lecture was delivered in an online mode as a part of an initiative taken to spread awareness amongst the student and staff members of USJMC regarding the rights granted by the Supreme Court to the LGBTQ community.

The session was highly enlightening and interactive with Dr. V. Lakshmi Priya, Professor Law College Dehradun providing the in-depth explanation on Section 377 of Indian Penal Code which provides the special status to the LGBTQ community and secure their rights. The session also helped the students and the staff members to understand the equal status and privileges given to the community all over the world like a normal citizen of any country.The initiative taken by National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, government of India in collaboration with the Law College Dehradun (LCD), faculty of Uttaranchal University was a great success, making the people understand the LGBTQ Community and helping the people to accept them as a part of the society.The lecture was commenced under the presence of Dr. Rajesh Bahuguna, Pro Vice Chancellor Uttaranchal University and Dr. Vikash Singh, Director USJMC as guests of honor for conducting the session.  At last, the session was concluded with the vote of thanks given by Ms. Ankita Parmar, Asst. Prof. USJMC.
