Law College Dehradun, Dehradun in collaboration with the Legal Aid Centre conducted a legal awareness camp on 20 February 2023, at Haripurkheda in Selaqui. The camp was conducted under the guidance of the Dean, Law College Dehradun, and Director of Legal Aid center, Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna. HOD, Law College Dehradun and Dy. Director of Legal Aid centre, Prof. Dr. Poonam Rawat, and Chairperson of Legal Aid centre, Mr. Abhiranjan Dixit.


The session was hosted by Mr. Sudeep Chandra, Executivemember of Legal Aid centre. He provided a detailed introduction about the Legal Aid centre, its aim and its activities under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Law and Justice. Pamphlets containing all the necessary information were distributed to the people. They were also informed about the Nyaya Bandhu app and the way to use it. He also talked about several govt. schemes that have been launched so far like


• Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana(PMJAY)

• Ayushman Bharat Cards that have a provision of insurance of upto Rs. 5L in case of payment of hospital dues.


Further, Mr. Amrit Raj Dubey discussed about the importance of education and threw light upon the evils of child marriage and child labour. He informed the people that mid-day meals are also circulated in schools to encourage more and more students to attend schools regularly. The people were informed that a helpline number 1098 can be contacted in case they witness any child labour or child marriage incidents. Further they were also informed about various scholarship schemes that can be availed by them.


Next up, Ms. Kanan Joshi discussed on the rights of pregnant women. Mentioned that no woman can be fired from work if she takes maternity leave during her pregnancy nor can she be refused her due payment. Further no woman can be arrested before 6:00 a.m. and after 6:00 p.m. unless the police officers contain high court orders and compulsorily must be accompanied by a female police officer. Further toilets and water for drinking cannot be denied even from a 5 star or a seven-star hotel They were also informed that in case of private defense they will not be held liable even for murder. The issue of Sheesham Bada dump yard was brought forth which affected the health of the nearby villagers.


Lastly, a sanitary pad donation drive was carried out where sanitary pads were distributed among the women of that area.
