Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Uttaranchal University, organised a National Seminar on 22-23 December, on IPR sponsored by UCOST in collaboration with APTI and IPA.

The event was graced with the benign presence of Mr Jitendra Joshi, Chancellor, Uttaranchal University, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr). Dharam Buddhi, Pro. Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr). Rajesh Bahuguna. The Chief guest of the event was Prof. (Dr). Durgesh Pant, Director General UCOST and Key Note Speaker Dr Rahul Taneja, Scientist (DST), Haryana. Dr. Durgesh Pant motivated the gathering and explained the importance of IPR and the  knowledge and skills needed for researchers, faculty, and students to gain technical expertise related to IPR.The event was inaugurated by Mrs Pallavi Ghildiyal, Assistant Professor was followed by felicitation and lamp lighting followed with Saraswathi Vandana by Ms. Mahamedha Deorari.

The session was further addressed by eminent keynote speaker Dr Rahul Taneja, Scientist (DST), Haryana. He delivered his talk on the topic “Need of IPR in current scenario”. The session was very informative. He elaborated various segments of IPR including patent, trade mark, Geographical Indications, Trade secrets, copyright, he discussed in detail about the common manual error done by patentee while applying for IP rights.

Another keynote speaker of the day was Mr Himanshu Goel, Patent Information Centre (PIC), UCOST. The title of his talk was “Copyright and Trademarks”.

The gathering was addressed by Prof. (Dr). Vikash Jakhmola, Convener of the event and at the end of inaugural session vote of thanks is given by Dr Amit Semwal, HOD, UIPS. 

Total 270 candidates registered for seminar from 20 different Institutions and Universities, they were provided the basic information regarding Intellectual Property Rights including patents, copyright, trademark, industrial design, counterfeit drugs and many more. As IPR is very important for economic growth of the company, promoting and motivating innovation and research, it helps in ensuring a standard and assures quality which help the consumer make his choice and put him at ease.

On the second day, the event was inaugurated with warm welcome the guest speaker of the day was Advocate Ashish Sharma, Managing Partners of IP Nation, he addressed the gathering about roles and responsibilities of IPRand he discussed about the importance of patent, petition for filing patent and possibility of increasing patent in pharmacy field, he also discussed, about section 3D which is important for pharmacy profession. 

Prof. (Dr). Rajesh Singh, Director Research, and Innovation, UU and Prof. (Dr). Anita Gehlot, Dean Research and Innovation, UU, discussed about, how to file patent, details of forms used in IPR, industry 4.O.  They also focused on importance of transdisciplanry collaboration in the field of research innovation and scalability of patentable things. 

Poster competition was also organised, the winners of the event are 

  1. First Prize - Akash Jain and Pravin Singh, Teerthankar Mahaveer College of Pharmacy, Moradabad U.P
  2. Second Prize - AyushSahu and Divanshi Bajpayee, PSIT Pharmacy Kanpur
  3. Third Prize - Neha Kandpal, UIPS , Uttaranchal University

The valedictory ceremony was conducted in the presence of APTI president (Uttarakhand State Branch) Dr Rajeev Kumar Sharma motivation and IPA president (Uttarakhand State Branch) Prof H. Chitme discussed about skills.

The celebration ended with award and certificate distribution and vote of thanks is given by Dr Tarun Parashar (Organising Secretary) in seminar hall of UIPS.
