Law College Dehradun, faculty of Uttaranchal University, organizes a panel discussion on the topic, “Discrimination against Women”, under the aegis of Women Cell & ICC on 9 December 2022. A single moment can spark a revolution, collective actions can transform laws, creative expression can change attitudes and an invention can alter the course of history. With this objective, the discussion was organized in the presence of Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna, Pro. Vice Chancellor & Dean Law College Dehradun and Prof. Poonam Rawat, Head of the Department amidst other faculty members and students of the institution.


The event commenced with the University Kulgeet and an oath to follow traffic rules and follow them always as per the directions given by the government. Following this the Panel discussion began on Political discrimination against women by Prachi Panwar & Simran Chauhan, where they discussed the significant role of women in politics, international conventions related to women and the different article in the Indian constitution. Next discussion was on religious discrimination which was discussed by Krinjal and Muskan Jha. Krinjal beginning from Sabrimala judgment and various other religious discrimination including Haji Ali Durga case. Gender Discrimination was elaborated by Sanvi Singh and Arya Singh who spoke about the different provisions of Indian Constitution which emphasizes equality including schemes like Beti Bachao and Beti Padao, Ujjwala scheme etc. Arya Singh expressed her views on child marriage custom which is prevailing even at present in the different rural as well as urban areas.


In the end Prof. Rajesh Bahuguna addressed the gathering and explained the different rights of women. He also averred that gender discrimination exist in the society and brought to light the proactive role of judiciary by taking example of Supreme Court Judgments. His address emphasized the need to follow the traffic rules by every individual.


The program was concluded by vote of thanks and national anthem.
