Law College Dehradun of Uttaranchal University organized a Boot Camp on Patent Filing on 7 September 2026 under the aegis of Corporate Resource Center and the Training and Recruitment Division of LCD, where more than 400 students from law, pharmacy, and engineering of the university participated. Mr. Vikrant Rana, Managing Director of Rana & Rana Company, a renowned law firm in the field of intellectual property rights (IPR) and patents, presided as the chief guest and keynote speaker.
Mr. Vikrant Rana, who has been active in the field of IPR for the past 30 years, explained how an idea propagated in the mind progresses through various stages to reach its commercialization stage. He explained that patents are the product of a person's research capabilities and innovative thinking. He also stated that the practical rationale of IPR and its growing importance in the commercial landscape have opened up immense opportunities for law graduates in this field. The program ended with a question-and-answer session in which the experts quenched the curiosity of the students.
University Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Rajesh Bahuguna in his address averred that patent agent ship has emerged as a new option for law graduates. A large number of law firms are hiring law graduates as patent agents. Even in private practice, a law graduate can master patent filing and work at the national and international levels.
