Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), in collaboration with Uttaranchal Hospital and Diagnostic Centre (UHDC), successfully conducted a training program on 09 April 2026 on the handling and management of biomedical waste under the guidance of the Medical Pollution Control Committee (MPCC). The session was attended by faculty members, laboratory technicians, and housekeeping staff with the objective of enhancing their understanding of safe biomedical waste segregation, categorization, transportation, and disposal in accordance with the Biomedical Waste Management Rules, 2016.

The training session was conducted by Mr. Shantanu, Manager – Strategic Partnerships & Growth, MPCC. He delivered comprehensive presentations along with practical demonstrations on color-coded waste segregation, bar-code labeling, appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and the importance of maintaining hygiene to prevent contamination and infection risks. The session also highlighted the environmental and health hazards associated with improper biomedical waste handling and emphasized strict adherence to regulatory guidelines. The program concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session and hands-on demonstration, ensuring active participation and improved awareness among attendees.

This initiative represents a significant step toward strengthening a safe, efficient, and compliant biomedical waste management system at UIPS and UHDC. The program was conducted under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Vikash Jakhmola, Director, UIPS, and Dr. Amit Bhatt, Campus Director, and was coordinated by Ms. Yogita Ale, Assistant Professor, UIPS, Uttaranchal University.
