Agriculture Minister Shri Ganesh Joshi inaugurated the Farmers’ Fair and Agro-Industrial Exhibition at Uttaranchal University

School of Agriculture in collaboration with Atal Community Innovation Centre (ACIC), Uttaranchal University Foundation, organized a two-day Farmers’ Fair and Agro-Industrial Exhibition on 19th–20th March, 2026 in the university campus. The event was inaugurated by Shri Ganesh Joshi, Hon'ble Minister for Agriculture, Farmer Welfare and Soldier Welfare, Govt. of Uttarakhand, who lit the ceremonial lamp along with other dignitaries. On this occasion Soil Health Card was also launched for the benefit of farmers of the region. He also honoured progressive farmers for their outstanding contribution to the agricultural sector. 


The programme began with the divine blessings of Lord Ganesha through Ganesh Vandana, followed by the welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) Sharad Pandey, Director, School of Agriculture highlighting the key achievements of School of Agriculture and its role in promoting agricultural education, research and extension activities. Students also presented cultural performances based on the Chipko Movement and the Uttarakhand Andolan, highlighting the cultural heritage of Uttarakhand and its close connection with nature and agriculture. 


While addressing the gathering, Agriculture Minister Shri Ganesh Joshi appreciated the efforts of the university in organizing the Farmers’ Fair and described agriculture as the backbone of the country’s economy, with farmers as its real strength. He said that the government is making continuous efforts for the welfare of farmers, especially in Uttarakhand, by promoting organic farming, millet production and modern agricultural practices suitable for hill regions. He emphasized that educational institutions should work closely with farmers and support them through research, innovation and practical knowledge. He also spoke about various government initiatives related to soil health testing, irrigation facilities and use of modern technology in farming. During the fair, he interacted with farmers and visited the exhibition stalls, and said that such programmes provide a good platform for farmers, scientists and students to share knowledge and experiences. 


A Kisan Goshti was also organized during the fair, where farmers interacted with scientists and experts on various agricultural issues. The event was also graced by Shri Jitendra Joshi, Hon’ble President of the University, Ms. Ankita Joshi, Vice President, Prof.(Dr.) Dharam Buddhi, Vice-Chancellor, and Prof.(Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna, Pro Vice-Chancellor, along with faculty members, students and a large number of farmers. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Rajendra Prasad, HoD, School of Agriculture, Uttaranchal University.
