The Women Cell of the School of Liberal Arts, Uttaranchal University, organised a meaningful event on 25 November to observe the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Coordinated by Dr. Rati Sood, the programme began in the afternoon with the dignified rendition of the University Kulgeet, creating an atmosphere of respect and reflection.
The event was honoured by Prof. (Dr.) Kartikey, Director of the School of Liberal Arts, whose gracious presence added inspiration to the occasion. Prof. (Dr.) Reeta Rautela, Head of the Department, also graced the programme and appreciated the initiative taken by the Women Cell to address such a significant social concern through creative expression.
A thought-provoking play performed by students was the central highlight of the session. Through impactful dialogues, expressive performances, and realistic portrayals, the play depicted the various visible and invisible forms of violence faced by women. It compelled the audience to reflect on the psychological, emotional, and social dimensions of these experiences, encouraging a collective resolve to challenge and change entrenched social attitudes.
The poetry session that followed added a deeply emotional and introspective layer to the programme. Students recited original poems and selected verses that explored themes of resilience, hope, solidarity, and the pursuit of justice. The poetic expressions resonated strongly with the audience, reminding everyone of the power of literature and language in confronting injustice and nurturing empathy.
The event witnessed active participation from faculty members and students, making it a memorable and purposeful gathering. The Women Cell remains committed to organizing such initiatives that foster awareness, sensitivity, and sustained action towards building a society grounded in respect, equality, and freedom from violence.
