A guest lecture on the topic “Topological Data Analysis and Geometry in Machine Learning” was organized by the Department of Mathematics, School of Applied and Life Sciences, on 8th November 2025. The lecture was delivered by Dr. T. S. Chauhan, a distinguished academician and researcher with expertise in applied mathematics, data science, and machine learning.

The objective of the lecture was to provide students and faculty with insights into modern data analysis tools that employ mathematical frameworks—particularly topology and geometry—for solving real-world problems in artificial intelligence and machine learning.

During the session, Dr. Chauhan introduced the concept of topology, emphasizing that it studies the shape and structure of data rather than individual data points. He explained how Topological Data Analysis (TDA) aids in identifying clusters, holes, and connected components in high-dimensional data. Persistent homology and simplicial complexes were highlighted as vital tools in this approach.
