On 10th October 2025, the School of Liberal Arts, in collaboration with the Psychological Counselling Cell (PCC), organized a thought-provoking and deeply moving event to mark World Mental Health Day at Uttaranchal University, Dehradun. This year’s theme centered by WHO around “Mental Health in Survival Mode: Understanding and Mitigating Accessibility Barriers in Moments of Crisis. "The celebration emphasized that awareness, empathy, and understanding can transform conversations about mental health into movements of healing and hope. The University had the honour of hosting Ms. Tamrina Matta, RCI-Registered Clinical Psychologist from Amritsar, Punjab, and notably, India’s first visually impaired clinical psychologist. Ms. Matta conducted two impactful workshops titled:

  1. “Identifying Red Flags and Combating Stigma” and Highlighting the role of Educator Support in times of uncertainty

  1. “Mental Health in Survival Mode: Understanding and Mitigating Accessibility Barriers in Moments of Crisis.”

Her sessions were both insightful and empowering, inviting participants to reflect deeply on their own experiences while equipping them with practical tools for fostering emotional resilience and inclusivity. The workshops witnessed enthusiastic participation from psychology students, who engaged actively in discussions, reflections, and interactive activities. As Ms Tamrina beautifully expressed, “When we become aware, we begin to heal, and when we show empathy, we help others heal too.”

Together, as educators and learners, we reaffirm our commitment to creating a campus culture where mental well-being is prioritized, stigma is challenged, and every student feels seen, heard, and supported. Because mental health is not just a conversation — it’s  shared responsibility and a step toward a more compassionate tomorrow. The event was organized by Dr. Atika Tewari, Chairperson, PCC, along with the faculty members of Psychology, and was held under the supervision of Prof. Shalini Vohra, Director, School of Liberal Arts.
