The Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS) organized a Debate Competition on the occasion of World Ozone Day, 17th September 2025, under the theme “From Science to Global Action.” The event aimed to raise awareness among students about the vital role of science in promoting global efforts to protect the ozone layer, while also fostering critical thinking, scientific understanding, and effective communication skills.
The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from B. Pharm students, who were divided into two teams – Pro and Contra – to debate the topic: “Is Science Alone Sufficient to Drive Global Action on Ozone Protection?”
The event was held in the Seminar Hall of UIPS from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, under the supervision of Prof. (Dr.) Vikash Jakhmola, Director, UIPS, along with coordinators Ms. Pallavi Pandey, Ms. Prinsa, and Mr. Vikash Sagar.
Participants Gurshan, Nandani, Akansha, Atishna, Udaishree, and Avantika emerged as winners and were awarded certificates of appreciation for their outstanding contributions in raising awareness and fostering meaningful scientific dialogue.
During the session, students presented well-researched scientific arguments and engaged in discussions on global environmental policies. The competition was evaluated by an expert panel based on knowledge, clarity of arguments, rebuttal ability, presentation style, and teamwork.
This initiative not only enhanced students’ understanding of the environmental and policy dimensions of ozone protection but also reflected UIPS’s commitment to promoting sustainable practices and scientific responsibility.
