Uttaranchal University Celebrates 133rd National Librarians’ Day

The Central Library, Uttaranchal University, in collaboration with the Central Government Library Association (CGLA), celebrated the 133rd National Librarians’ Day in honour of Padma Shri Dr S. R. Ranganathan, Father of Library Science in India. 

The programme began with lamp lighting, a floral tribute to Dr Ranganathan, and recital of the University Kulgeet. Shri Jitender Joshi, Hon’ble President; Ms Ankita Joshi, Vice President; Prof (Dr) Dharam Buddhi, Vice Chancellor; Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna, Pro-Vice Chancellor, senior officials and resource persons, were felicitated with mementoes and saplings. 

 

Dr Ramveer Tanwar, University Librarian welcomed the dignitaries and highlighted the library’s role in quality education and its new services. The dignitaries also released the Bibliotheca Bulletin, Vol. 4, Issue 1. 

In their addresses, Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna stressed libraries as drivers of student development, while Prof (Dr) Dharam Buddhi emphasised technology’s transformative role in library services. Dr A. K. Suman, President, CGLA, delivered the keynote on “Changing Role of Libraries and Librarians,” noting the shift from traditional to virtual libraries driven by IT and AI. Ms Ankita Joshi shared motivational thoughts, and Hon’ble President Shri Jitender Joshi congratulated library professionals and awardees. 

Best Library User Awards – 2025 

To inspire greater engagement with library resources, the Best Library User Awards were conferred upon the following faculty members and students:

  • Mr Aman Kumar Bansal (LLB)

  • Ms Shreya Bhatia (BBALLB) 

  • Ms Shivangi Negi (BBALLB) 

  • Km Anjali Awasthi (LLB) 

 

Lifetime Achievement Award 
CGLA honoured Shri Ramesh Goel, Ex-President, CGLA, and retired ALIO, LBSNAA Mussoorie, with the Lifetime Outstanding Achievement Award. 

 

The event, moderated by Ms Nidhi Sharma, Assistant Professor, UCHS, saw active participation from faculty, students, library staff, and over 100 professionals from Uttarakhand. It concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr Manish Sharma, General Secretary, CGLA, followed by the National Anthem and a networking High Tea.
