The Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Uttaranchal University, successfully organised the Deeksharambh 2025 – Student Induction Programme for first-year students from 04 August to 12 August 2025. The week-long programme aimed to warmly welcome newly admitted students and seamlessly integrate them into the academic, cultural, and professional environment of the institute.
The programme commenced with an inaugural session graced by eminent dignitaries, including Prof (Dr) Vikash Jakhmola, Director, UIPS, who extended a heartfelt welcome to the esteemed guests: Hon’ble Ms. Ankita Joshi, Vice-President; Prof (Dr) Dharam Buddhi, Vice-Chancellor; and Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Uttaranchal University. Notable guest speakers, Mr Madan Lal Joshi, Former Registrar, Uttarakhand Pharmacy Council, and Dr Shuaib Khan, Deputy General Manager – R&D, India Glycols Limited, shared their valuable experiences and inspired students with insightful talks on the pharmacy profession.
Throughout the week, students engaged in expert lectures, interactive sessions, and departmental introductions by units such as DRI, IQAC, CRC, ERP, and the Library, enabling them to understand both academic and administrative processes.
To bridge the gap between school-level knowledge and the university curriculum, bridge courses were conducted in Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Human Anatomy & Physiology, Pharmacology, and Pharmacognosy, helping students connect prior learning with fundamental pharmacy concepts.
The programme also featured literary, cultural, and sports activities, including dance, singing, poetry, debate, poster presentations, carrom, table tennis, and chess to foster creativity, teamwork, and holistic development.
As part of experiential learning, students visited the pharmaceutical industry (Himalayan Wellness Centre), the Forest Research Institute (FRI), and DNA laboratories, gaining real-world exposure to the diverse applications of pharmacy.
On the final day, a feedback session and bridge course assessment were conducted to evaluate the programme’s effectiveness and the students’ understanding. Certificates of achievement were awarded to winners of various competitions, as well as to students who demonstrated exceptional participation and enthusiasm throughout the induction programme. Ashutosh Dobhal (D. Pharm), Gurshan Singh and Ritesh Kumar (B. Pharm), and Vachaspati Upadhyay (M. Pharm – Pharmaceutics) were recognised for their outstanding performance during the entire session.
