Law College Dehradun successfully hosted the first session of its IPR Workshop Series on 23rd August 2025, focusing on the theme “IPR for Innovation and Start-up Industry.” The session featured Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Singh, Director of Research and Innovation at Uttaranchal University, as the keynote speaker.

The event commenced with a warm welcome by Ms. Simran Chauhan and Ms. Aanchal Verma, who greeted all dignitaries, faculty members, and students, setting a tone of enthusiasm and curiosity for the session. This was followed by a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony and the university Kulgeet, marking an auspicious start.

Delivering the formal welcome address, Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Dean of Law College Dehradun, highlighted that IPR workshops play a vital role in fostering a culture of innovation. He noted that these workshops equip students and faculty with the knowledge required to protect and commercialize intellectual assets, while strengthening the university’s role in research, entrepreneurship, and industry collaboration.

Following this, Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Singh delivered an insightful and inspiring session, shedding light on the dynamic nature of IPR in the start-up landscape. He encouraged students and researchers to develop strong writing skills and discussed opportunities such as MSME Hackathons, industry investment in utility patents, and upcoming grants through innovation centres like ACIC. He emphasized the importance of transdisciplinary collaboration. Sharing his journey of mentoring startups and securing over 800 patents, Dr. Singh urged students to focus on the “4 P’s”—Publications, Patents, Project Funding, and Participation—while adapting to emerging domains such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and the metaverse.
