In line with the department’s continuous efforts to bridge academic learning with real-world industry practices, the Department of Civil Engineering organized an Expert Lecture on "Need for Composite Construction Technology in the Modern Era" by Dr Siva Chidambaram, Senior Scientist, Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Roorkee, on 24 April 2025, for B Tech, Civil Engineering students.

Dr Sumit Chaudhary, Director, UIT highlighted the importance of the expert lecture, emphasizing how it provides students with valuable insights into the evolving field of composite construction technologies and the significance of such knowledge in shaping the future of civil engineering. The lecture began with a formal introduction of Dr Chidambaram, highlighting his vast expertise in building materials and structural technology. Dr Chidambaram's talk focused on the advances in composite construction materials and systems, particularly their role in enhancing the strength, durability and sustainability of modern structures. He discussed the integration of various materials, such as steel, concrete, and polymers, to create composite systems that offer greater flexibility and efficiency in construction. Dr Chidambaram also shared case studies from CBRI, demonstrating how these technologies are being implemented in real-world scenarios.

The lecture concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where students posed insightful questions related to the challenges and opportunities in composite construction. Dr Chidambaram’s responses deepened the students’ understanding and sparked further interest in research and application of composite materials in civil engineering.

Lastly, Mr Gaurav Thakur, Head, Civil Engineering Department proposed heartfelt thanks to Dr Siva Chidambaram for his insightful lecture and to all attendees for their enthusiastic participation, making the event a memorable success.
