International Mother Language Day, observed annually on February 21, promotes linguistic and cultural diversity worldwide. This date commemorates the 1952 language movement in Bangladesh, where students sacrificed their lives advocating for the recognition of Bengali as an official language.
On 21 February 2025, Faculty of Nursing, Uttaranchal College of Nursing, Uttaranchal University, celebrated Matribhasha Diwas with a series of events aimed at promoting linguistic diversity and multilingualism. The day's activities included a seminar, poetry competition, and singing competition, all focused on the importance of mother languages and the implementation of multilingualism in education. The seminar focused on the pivotal role of language in driving change and growth in human civilization. Discussions emphasized how mother tongues are integral to cultural identity and educational development. Mr Amit got first position in Poetry competition and in Singing competition Mr Ayush got first position.
The event concluded with a collective slogan by students and faculty: "मातृभाषा का मान बढ़ाकर, नया इतिहास बनाएंगे। हिंदी हमारी भाषा है, आओ इसे अपनाएं। हम सबका अभिमान है हिंदी"
