Research and Innovation Club, Uttaranchal Institute of Management organised a seminar on “Intellectual Property Rights – A Key to Protecting Innovation in Startups” for management students on 20 February 2025. The keynote speaker was Prof (Dr) Rajesh Singh, Director- Division of Research and Innovation, Uttaranchal University.
The seminar commenced with a formal welcome of keynote speaker by Prof (Dr) Pradeep Suri, Director, UIM, Uttaranchal University. In his address, Prof Suri highlighted that Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) act as a critical safeguard, ensuring startups maintain their competitive edge. He also shared an inspiring example of an alumnus from UIM who drew inspiration from the successful real estate platform 99 acres. Recognizing the strength of its business model, the alumnus adapted the idea to create innovative solutions tailored to new market needs, demonstrating that combining proven concepts with strong IPR strategies can lead to sustainable business success.
Prof (Dr) Rajesh Singh provided a comprehensive overview of how robust intellectual property protection including patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets—is essential for startups. He further explored how emerging technologies are transforming the patent creation process. He discussed the impact of AI, machine learning, blockchain, and advanced digital documentation on streamlining patent drafting and filing. In addition, he highlighted the use of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) technology, which enhances efficiency by automating research efforts and producing more robust patent applications.
The insights shared by Prof (Dr) Pradeep Suri and Prof (Dr) Rajesh Singh provided valuable guidance for aspiring entrepreneurs and management students.
