Uttaranchal School of Computing Sciences organized a one-day Educational Visit to Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Dehradun on 28 March 2024 for the students of BCA second year, under the supervision of Dr Meera Sharma and Mr Anoop Chamoli. IIRS is a premier institute working under the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), dedicated to the research and education of remote sensing and geoinformatics. The visit was to familiarize the students with cloud computing, big data analytics, and spatial databases in storing, organizing, and retrieving remote sensing data.
Dr Ashutosh Bhardwaj, Head, Research Project Monitoring Department and Scientist/Engineer - SF, IIRS, with his team discussed different terminology in association with computing sciences during the visit. Students acquired the knowledge of how IT technologies like machine learning, artificial intelligence, and geospatial modeling are applied to develop DSS for applications such as crop monitoring, natural resource management, and climate change assessment. Further they elaborated the extensive use of Internet of Things (IoT) technology in remote sensing, showcasing its wide-ranging applications and benefits in data collection, monitoring, and analysis processes.
Special appreciation is extended to Dr Sonal Sharma, Dean, USCS and Dr Sameer Dev Sharma HoD, USCS, for their guidance and support throughout the visit. Furthermore, the organizing team, comprising of Mr Abhishek Pathak, Ms Manisha Saini, and Ms Manisha Khanduja, played a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth execution of the trip.
