Uttaranchal University joined hands in the Voting awareness campaign. The Electoral Literacy Club of Uttaranchal University organised a rally on 20 February 2024 in association with University NSS, Pro Bono Club and Legal Awareness Centre of Law College Dehradun. Shri Jitender Joshi, Chancellor graced the event as a chief guest. Under the direction of the District Election Officer, the BLOs team that arrived from Sahaspur Block explained in detail to the students the process related to making new votes.
Before proceeding for the Awareness Rally, Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna, Pro Vice-Chancellor highlighted that the Constitution gives us the immense power of 'one person, one vote'. Not exercising one's vote is the biggest misdeed of any citizen, which is unforgivable in the era of democratic governments. He advised the students to actively participate in elections at every level.
Shri Jitender Joshi, Chancellor deliberated that electoral literacy among the youth is as important as educational qualification. The participation of youth in the election process will prove to be effective in forming a good Government. He administered the 'Voting Oath' to the students, and everyone took the oath that they would maintain the dignity of democratic traditions and would fearlessly discriminate based on religion, class, caste, community, language, or any other election while keeping the dignity of free, fair and peaceful elections intact.
The event was organised by the Election Literacy Club President, Prof (Dr) V K Srivastava and National Service Scheme with NSS coordinators and campus ambassadors. Those present on the occasion were Dr Poonam Rawat, Sarla Chauhan, Pramila Pokhriyal, Meena Chandel, Sunita Jaguri, Dr Manoj Sharma, Dr Atma Nand, Dr Khaliq Ahmad, Mr Gaurav Singh Negi, Mr Yogesh Juyal, Mr Jageshwar Ray, Mr Waseem Ahmed, Dr Gaurav Jain, Mr Sumendra Singh Bhakuni and hundreds of students.
